The Internet is arguably one of the most important inventions in the annals of technology. The Web runs on the Internet. It can be argued that the invention of the World Wide Web or the Web democratized information technology.

While the Internet has revolutionized education, communication, transportation, commerce, and culture, it is also an infliction.

However, it can be said that the utility outweighs the dangers. The dangers range from viruses that can damage or erase your files to spyware that can steal your passwords and credit/debit card information.

Caution is important when it comes to browsing the Internet. The following will help you in protecting your computer, files and identity:

•Install anti-spyware and antivirus programs and keep them up to date.

•Install and enable firewall.

•Make sure your operating system and web browser are up to date.

•Do not open suspicious email attachments.

•Do not download files and programs from unknown sources.

•Before you enter personally identifiable information, make sure the site begins with https://.
